Vegan as a Career?

by Nimisha

Hi Sassy - I want veganism to be part of my career. Wondering if you can share some tips on how to actually make money at it? Thank you!

*****

Sassy Sez: - Hi Nimisha,

Well, my darling, I don't have any special words of wisdom for how to make money at "vegan". All I have is my own personal experience to refer to.

If you read my Meet Sassy page, you have learned that I was a vegan Personal Chef. If you are a great cook, it's a wonderful way to make money.

The only drawback was this: There is one of you and only so many hours in the day, so there is a limit to the $$ you can make.

What has worked perfectly for me and my particular needs is creating my website/online business with help from SBI. It allows me the freedom to work in my chosen niche (vegan), work from home, make a residual income, and best of all be of service to others.

Would love to hear from other Vegans out there who are making money in a vegan career. What is working for you? xo

Holistic nutrition?
by: Megan

Hi, I'm still only in high school, and am 16 years old. I take veganism very seriously, and there isn't any other thing I enjoy saying more than "I'm vegan".
I want to make it part of my career also, and have decided on being a Holistic Nutritionist/Dietician.
I might be affiliated with a hospitol, work for myself, publish articls for online sites, or maybe even open my own cafe (that is, if I can find a husband who loves cooking as much as I love baking!)
Whatever I do, I definitely plan on incorporating my veganism in it, hope these ideas help! :)

Good for you!
by: Sassy

Hi Megan!

My darling, I don't know how your note slipped by all those many months ago! I want to congratulate you on your amazing goals. An Holistic Nutritionist/Dietician sounds like a fantastic career, and I believe you will find you can do so much with a degree as a vegan nutritionist/dietician, especially as time goes by and more and more people find their way to the value of nutrition. I believe Dieticians who support the vegan diet are worth their weight in gold.

I am sending you a giant hug, and many wishes for fantastic experiences ahead. Please do check in with us here occasionally and let us know how things are going for you! xo! :)

Vegan Money
by: Mike

Here's a get rich idea.

Work for some natural food manufacturing companies ( Tempeh, breads, cinnamon buns, amazake, mochi, tofurky,Hains, smoked tofu, packaged grains-Eden,milled grains, Fake cheese, nut milk ice cream, Bars, nut butters, chocolate, etc ). Attend their trade shows. Take classes in food chemistry. Figure a way to break into the pre-processed vegan foods that are sold to food lunch programs in your area and airline food co's....and to restuarants...
Experiment in the kitchen and then see if you can dream up a food that can be made for .40 ยข materials, sold wholesale for $1.80 to a distributor, distributor adds .40 and retailed $2.99 at a market. Start selling at farmer's markets.
Keep the overhead low and the wages as high as possible. Too bad the American mainstream doesn't eat much Sauerkraut because cabbage ingredients are so cheap!

And give away free samples at Vegan Festivals.

Untapped market?
by: Sassy

Hi Mike! Thanks for the good ideas. I think there are so many opportunities in the vegan arena. It seems to me to still be an untapped market since it still has yet to come into its own as more and more people join the ranks.

Do you have personal experience with food production, such as you described (vegan or not)? I only ask because Jeff and I have had ideas over the years, but have always wondered about the ingredient costs vs keeping the price down -- most vegans (in my humble opinion) are fairly picky about things being organic, non-gmo, etc. Would love your thoughts. :)
