Pie Face Pizza Small hip lounge near front door (Hi Jeff!)

So Jeff and I were out for a walk and stumbled by a new pizza place in our neighborhood, Pie Face Pizza Co. We went inside to check it out, but honestly we were not very hopeful. I can't tell you how many pizza joints we have checked out over the years, all offering the same exact boring toppings that we would have to have on a cheese-less pizza.

But I had to admit, the place is cute. It smelled all warm and cozy and pizza-ey, like a pizza place should. The dark wood and cozy atmosphere made me want to stay. We made our way to the front to check out their menu.

We were pleasantly surprised to see their vast selection of vegetarian toppings like basil, spinach, arugala, pineapple, fresh jalapeno, sun dried tomato, pine nuts, grape tomatoes -- and more.

But what I saw next made me nearly fall over: "YOU HAVE VEGAN CHEESE?!" I exclaimed! "Yes," said the friendly guy working behind the counter, "one of the guys who works here is Vegan and suggested we add it to the menu. Plus our crust and sauce are both vegan."

Be still my heart.

Fortunate for us, we were hungry AND out of food back home, so we stayed to order our very own pizza pie.

Their pizzas are made with a thin crust (New York style) and you have two choices on the sizes: 14" ($18) and 20" ($24).

Vegan pizza with Daiya cheeseBack in my pre-veg days, my favorite pizza was simply plain cheese, no embellishments; so that's what I requested on my half. Jeff would faint dead away if he had to eat a plain cheese pizza, so he ordered a selection of veggies and pine nuts.

Pie Face nailed it. After the first bite, I was hooked. The pizza was cheesy, gooey, and deliciously fresh. The sauce was a bit on the sweet side, but pleasantly so.

Something I found interesting is how the veggies were cut - into fairly small chops (unlike most pizza places which do a coarse chop, leaving them quite large so they never really soften to al dente).

Pie Face also offers appetizers which include garlic knots w/marinara, and cinnamon sugar knots, which are vegan if you get them without the ricotta on the side. Seasonal salad specials round out the vegan part of their menu.

As far as beverages, they have regular sodas, juices, coffee and tea. They also offer "hand selected wines available by bottle or glass" which I might try sometime in the future.

But with their good selection of domestic, import, and micro brews available in bottle and draft to choose from, we opted to wash our pizza down with a beer we had never tried called Organic Mothership that is brewed with spices. My, oh my, that is QUITE a tasty beer with no aftertaste - I fell in love with it. Gotta dig the instructions on the bottle.

Prices right. Tasty pizza. Vegan cheese. Good lordy be, get your butt into Pie Face and show them the love right back.

p.s. They also deliver, for a fee: North to McCarran, East to Wells, South to Plumb, and West to Keystone.
