Transition to Vegan?
by Chelsy
(Michigan)
I have been vegetarian for 2 years and I want to make the switch to vegan. It just seems so hard. What is the easiest way to go about doing it? I need simple food to transition to, new recipes that are not so complicated with weird ingredients, stuff like that.
Thanks!
How do I go vegan?
I'm 15 and a strict vegetarian. I want to go vegan but don't know how to start. I live in Houston Texas. How do I start?
*****Sassy Sez Firstly I would like to congratulate you on your decision to go vegan. ;O)
Vegan doesn't have to be difficult, but you DO have to learn some basics that will ensure you are getting the nutrients you need on a daily basis. It is nothing to play around with, especially at your age when you are still growing and maturing.
Here at
VeganCoach.com we give you some of the most basic cooking and nutrition advice, which is very beneficial and you will find it helpful.
But for a more thorough understanding of the vegan diet (and so you don't miss anything important) I recommend you get your hands on the book
Becoming Vegan: The Complete Guide to Adopting a Healthy Plant-Based Diet
by Brenda Davis, R.D. & Vesanto Melina, M.S., R.D. This book is SO well written and researched. And what I especially love is they don't sugar coat anything. While some books that address the needs of vegans may try to paint a rosy picture simply to support the vegan movement, in this book if there is a concern meeting a particular nutrient as a vegan, they come right out and say so.
After you educate yourself on the topic, sit down with your parents and talk it out with them. You will need their support. And if you have done your homework, you should be able to address any questions they might have.
Best wishes to you! :O)
