Daiya Vegan Cheese

Hey Sassy!

I don't have a question, I would just like to recommend a product! Today at Whole Foods I was in the dairy section and happened to see a new "cheese." The brand is called Daiya.

Now I have had some pretty gross vegan cheese, but let me tell you, this is nothing like the normal stuff. This is amazing! It doesn't taste exactly like cheese, but it's close enough for me!

As soon as I tasted it this website was the first thing that came to mind! I saw mozzarella and cheddar. I got the cheddar and it was well worth it!

Hi Stephanie - Thanks for the note. I, too, have tried Daiya and have feel that it has really hit the mark, as far as vegan cheeses go. YES!

Please note that while it is definitely a "fun food", it is still best to keep very processed foods like this to a minimum, and keep your diet focused on whole foods, organic whenever possible.

The winner for me, as far as vegan cheese, is Joanne Stepaniak's wonderful book The Uncheese Cookbook: Creating Amazing Dairy-Free Cheese Substitutes and Classic "Uncheese" Dishes Why? Because she teaches you how to make homemade cheese using whole foods like nuts, seeds, tofu, etc.

But hey, have some occasional fun with Daiya! Kudos to them for this fabulous product. :O)

I agree, Joanne Stepaniak is terrific!

I love Joann Stepaniak's recipes. She has a number of excellent books, and I'm trying to buy them all...slowly. Ecological Cooking is really good too.
Another good author is Bryanna Clark Grogan. I have her "The (Almost) No Fat Cookbook Everyday Vegetarian Recipes" and it too has some excellent vegan ideas.

Hi there! Thank you for your recommendations! I agree 100%. Bryanna Clark Grogan is fabulous. Years ago I purchased that very same book, The ( Almost ) No Fat Cookbook. I believe it was this book that first turned us on to tofu all those years ago when we made her Oven Fried Breast of Tofu recipe. Thanks for reminding me of this fabulous, simple, and yummy cookbook. FANTASTIC book for those just starting out with the vegan diet. xo!
