Can you soak beans too long?

by Danny Milobar

Hello,

The other evening I sorted and soaked a couple cups of black beans in anticipation of cooking them for dinner the following day. Then our plans changed unexpectedly and we ate out instead.

So I left the beans in the refrigerator soaking for two days before I cooked them. Is this the best way to handle this type of situation? Should I have drained the beans, then stored in the refrigerator until I can cook them or is it okay to just let them soak extra long?

Thanks for your help.

Sassy Sez: Hi Danny, Honestly, I am not sure if they can be soaked "too long". Perhaps? But in this situation, I would have drained and rinsed the beans and then stored them in the fridge (covered) for the next day when you had the time to cook them. xo

Soaking Beans
by: Memory

I've often soaked beans for a few days. I find that if I change the water out for fresh cold water twice a day, they are fine. I also think that the beans are less "musical" with the longer soaking and water changes.
