How To Make Boiled Cauliflower

Making boiled cauliflower is one way to enjoy this delicious veggie. I prefer not to use this technique often because I feel many of the nutrients get boiled out of the cauliflower. But it might be just the thing you need for your recipe creation.

This technique also works beautifully when making your very own cauliflower soup recipe because the nutrient-filled soup broth will be enjoyed also (instead of being discarded).

You can cook your cauliflower whole, or cut into florets.

Boil a large pot of water. Add 1 teaspoon lemon juice to the water before cooking to help retain the beautiful color of the cauliflower.

If you'd like to just use the whole head at once, simply immerse the entire head (trimmed of leaves) into the pot of water and cook for 20-25 minutes, approximately, or until fork tender. Carefully remove the head from the pot and let drain, stem side down on a plate or in a colander.

Another option before making boiled cauliflower is to remove the florets from the stalk with a knife. Then cook the florets for 5-10 minutes, approximately, or until fork tender. Drain in a colander.

If making your very own mashed cauliflower recipes, simply add the cauliflower back to the drained pot, and mash with a potato masher. Then visit the Cauliflower "Vegan Flavor Matches" to decide what to add to the pot to create a mashed cauliflower recipe all your own.

Finally, create your own delectable cauliflower soup recipe! I usually boil 5-6 cups of water or veggie broth and add my favorite veggies. Cauliflower should be cut into small florets when making soup, and using ONLY cauliflower will result in a delicious soup -- you just may not need as much water versus if you were to add a variety of veggies. Once again, use the Cauliflower "Vegan Flavor Matches" to decide which foods, flavors, herbs and spices should be added to your soup. VOILA! You've created your own warm and delicious cauliflower soup. Yum!
