How To Make Baked Brown Rice

If you don't own a rice cooker or a steamer, or your stovetop is crowded, then making baked brown rice might be just the ticket.

This technique works best when using short grain or medium grain brown rice. It is NOT necessary to pre-soak your rice when using this method. Refer to the Brown Rice main page for more detailed information about this hardy grain.

Pour 2 1/2 cups water or veggie broth in a covered saucepan. Add 1 Tablespoon of fat (such as extra-virgin olive oil, or a non-dairy butter like Earth Balance). Once the water boils, pour it into an 8x8 glass baking dish filled with 1 1/2 cups non-pre-soaked brown rice, stirring to combine. Cover the dish tightly with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Bake on the middle oven rack at 375 degrees for 1 hour.

After 1 hour, remove the cover and fluff the rice with a fork.

Your rice is ready to eat. Decorate it with some of your favorite ingredients from the Brown Rice "Vegan Flavor Matches".
