The Golden Banana - Issue #37 - * Special Edition * July 06, 2010 |
||
| Hi Welcome to the VeganCoach.com newsletter focusing on everyday vegan advice. The Golden Banana Newsletter is dedicated to assisting you with your everyday vegan cooking and nutrition questions. Hope your July 4th was exciting and fun. I was able to catch some fireworks from our balcony which our fabulous new baseball stadium fired off after a Reno Aces game. Great show. :O) For the first time in the history of this newsletter we are going to take a turn and do something completely different. It's been 3 1/2 years since I started this site (time flies!), and there is now over 300 pages of information! So I thought it might be a good idea to take this opportunity to take you on a tour of the website so you can have a solid idea of what information is here for you to use, how to find that information in the future when you need it, and maybe even point out some pages that you didn't even know existed. Next month, we will go right back to our usual newsletter. Hope you enjoy this special edition. :O) Each month, The Golden Banana is created by you with the questions you send me. Do you have a question, comment, or something else you'd like to share with our growing community of Vegan Coach fans? Please don't hesitate to fill out the form on my Contact page. I look forward to hearing from you. :O) It is my sincere hope that the information I provide on VeganCoach.com assists you in being the healthiest Vegan you can be. As always, thank you for joining me and for your support of VeganCoach.com. Big hugs to you,
Enjoy! :O) First stop... Everyday Cooking and Nutrition Blog - My goal when I started VeganCoach.com was never to simply offer a recipe site because vegan recipes are already so well represented across the net. The main goal of this site is to teach you how to be creative in the kitchen and develop your own recipes. So the blog is a way to bring you into my kitchen with me and actually show you the steps and thought process I go through to get a meal on the table. I explain nutritional benefits of the ingredients, special cooking tips, how and why I chose to make that dish that particular day, and finally sharing the recipe along with a picture or two of the finished dish. After clicking the link to visit the blog, you can scroll alllllll the way to the bottom of the page and you will see a listing of topics for the blog, such as Vegan Main Entrees, Vegan Side Dishes, Vegan Soups and Salads, Vegan Breakfast and Vegan Brunch, etc. These topics lead to blogs that are usually in and of themselves separate from anything else you will find on VeganCoach.com, so be sure to check them out next time you need some vegan cooking inspiration. :O) Vegan FAQ - This is a fairly new addition to the site. I was receiving so many questions via my Contact Form every week, that it seemed like a good idea to allow people to ask their questions where others can read them, answer them, and everyone can learn something instead of keeping it behind email doors. ;O) As I'm noticing, people get a little shy when it comes to asking a question "in public", so the questions are still coming through my Contact Form! So please note: These questions can be asked anonymously. I try to answer each and every question, and keep an eye on the whole operation, including what others are writing for responses, and I will join in the convo whenever it seems appropriate. This is a fabulous tool, and I hope you will join in the fun by asking a question, or adding to the answer with your own unique knowledge and perspective. Need Some Help? The next 6 tabs on the navigation bar are the place to find the products I highly recommend that you will find helpful on your vegan journey. These include: Vegan Weight Loss - Get Down With Sass! Vegan Weight Loss Course - This 7-week course teaches you how maximum weight loss can be achieved while learning the steps to building a nutritious vegan menu. This is a fabulous tool for those who are newly vegan, not yet vegan, or even long-time vegans who are lost when it comes to putting together a healthy weight-loss-promoting vegan meal. Vegan Sauce Course - Get Sauced With Sass! - Sauces are the key to making vegan food taste sinful and rich, even though the ingredients used are deliciously healthy. So this 107-page e-book will teach you to make sauces from scratch using the whole food ingredients you likely already have in your vegan kitchen. Sassy's Books - A place to showcase the e-books I have created that are available at this time. These books include:
Some of these books are included for free when you purchase either Get Down With Sass! or Get Sauced With Sass! The Vitamix! - My all-time favorite and most-used kitchen tool. It's more than just a blender. If you don't already own one, I highly recommend it. Pressure Cookers - My next most-used kitchen tool, I don't know where I would be without my pressure cooker. Jeff gets easily frustrated whenever a pot or pan is required in the kitchen, but he will happily whip out his pressure cooker to make some mean dishes for us. If you make beans and grains (which every healthy vegan diet should include) then you need a pressure cooker. The Basics As mentioned above, the main goal of this site is to teach you how to be creative in the kitchen and develop your own recipes. And The Basics will teach you to do just that. There is SO MUCH information found in this section of the website. In fact, I would say the majority of my time in the first year of building my site was devoted to these pages. Clicking on any of these tabs - Whole Grains, Vegetables, Beans and Fruit - will bring you to select pages with lists of these foods. It is on these pages that you will learn all about how to select and clean the various whole grains, vegetables, beans, and fruits listed. You will also find multiple ways of cooking these ingredients, and finally how to flavor them in an easy and fun way using Vegan Flavor Matches.
There is a LOT of information packed into these pages. Fortunately, there is a road map to guide you found in the How To... navigation tab, otherwise known as the Vegan Cooking Guide Tutorial. If you haven't done so already, please take some time to visit the Vegan Cooking Guide Tutorial and then poke around to see all the information that is at your fingertips in the Vegan Cooking Guide. Vegan Recipes - You won't find tons of recipes here, simply because my site was never intended to be a recipe site. But if it is listed among these pages, it is a tried and true favorite that Jeff and I love, and many have also been taste-tested and approved by friends and personal chef clients. Vegan Nutrition - This section of the site includes some basic nutritional information to get you started on the road to vegan, including The Vegan Food Pyramid, Vegan Protein, and Vegan Vitamin B12. By the way, information about Vegan Calcium and Healthy Fats is currently found in the Get Down With Sass! course. Behind The Scenes Meet Sassy - As you may have guessed, this is where you will get to know a little about me and why I started the site. Advertising - For those of you who are interested in advertising your vegan product or website on VeganCoach.com. Sitemap - A listing of all the pages located throughout the site. Please note the new search box which has been added - very helpful if you remember a topic you read about at VeganCoach.com but you just can't seem to remember where the heck you saw it. Contact - If you have a question or comment about the Vegan Coach website itself -- for instance, you have found a spelling error (reward offered!), or you have an idea for a vegan food or nutrition topic you would like to see covered -- you can do so here. Many of you have decided to use this as a place to send your fan mail - which I encourage and adore. :O) Reno Vegans - Since I live in Reno, Nevada, I feel it is important to have a page devoted to my fellow Reno-ites. :O) Privacy Policy - Basically, it was required of me to put this up, so I did so. I tried to make this page palatable, but it was difficult to do so. ;O) Other Pages You Might Like To Know About Find Your Bliss! (How I Created A Top Internet Business and How You Can Too!) - For those who are interested in starting your own online business and just don't know where to begin. Tempeh! - How to select, prepare, cook, and flavor this healthy soy food. Personalized Vegan Nutrition Coaching - For those who need one-on-one personalized guidance in adopting or perfecting a healthy vegan diet. And last but not least, those pages that only YOU, my newsletter subscribers, have access to. The next 6 links require a password, and these links can ALWAYS be found at the end of every newsletter, along with the most current password. CURRENT PASSWORD = cucumber Seasonal Produce Guide Take A Vegan Nutrition Test Vegan Nutrition Test Results How To Create A Vegan Diet Menu Plan Stock Your Kitchen With These Vegan Ingredients The Vegan Mashed Potato Martini Bar So, What's Next? I always have something cooking behind the scenes here. Since the entire process is creative and can morph and change, nothing is every REALLY set in stone. But here is a general idea of what we have planned for the site in the coming months, in no particular order: Instructional DVDs - Jeff and I are taping a series of DVDs which cover various topics we think you will enjoy and find useful. On that note, please take this poll to help us zero in on what YOU would like to see us cover in future videos. Clicking the link above will open a new window so you can return here - thanks. :O) ADVANCED Weight Loss Course - If you are a vegan who eats a very healthy diet and you STILL can't seem to lose the pounds, this course will be for you. If you are interested in this course, please click here to let me know. Clicking this link will open a new window so you can return here - thanks. The more people I hear from, the quicker this moves up my list of things to do. ;O) More Food Pages - More vegetables and grains added to the Vegan Cooking page, such as green beans, squash, kamut, oats, etc. Soy! - This is such a confusing topic for so many, and it is perhaps my most-asked question too. Should we or should we not eat soy? Stay tuned. More Recipes! - As I fall in love with them. Reno Vegan Restaurant Guide - Yes, it IS coming! Free videos - Sprinkled throughout the site as needed. I hope you have enjoyed this little trip through VeganCoach.com. As you can see, there is a lot for you to play around with, and I know it will assist you in being the healthiest and happiest vegan you can be. :O) Next month, we'll pick up where we left off with our usual information-packed monthly newsletter. There was no feeling of coming home and wracking my brain about what to eat, and then passing out before I even make a decision, going to sleep without dinner. "I've had a fresh and colorful green salad every day, and something good and nutritious to eat in the morning. Thank you so much for your advice. I can literally feel myself getting healthier!"
"You have a bubbly personality and although I have never met you in person, I was very comfortable sharing personal information with the knowledge that you would be able to offer healthful insights.
